Fundraiser Event: Melanoma Skin Cancer Awareness

Melanoma AwarenessThis is an ongoing invitation to donate towards this cause for a cure and more research and awareness.

Heading this fundraiser is Jeanne Dubil, her mother was recently diagnosed with Melanoma and she has already undergone three surgeries.  She had (what she thought was, the onset of an age spot) appear on her cheek a few Summers ago and didn’t think anything of it until this past year when she was strongly coerced to seek medical attention. It has all happened so fast!  She is now recovering from her third, most invasive procedure and plastic surgery.

October is Cancer Awareness Month! Melanoma is the most aggressive and dangerous form of skin cancer and unfortunately goes undetected.  Jeanne’s family had a wakeup call and they are all now under the care of a dermatologist getting checked as it is hereditary!

Jeanne is inviting you to take part in a Fundraiser through her Arbonne Business to raise money for the Skin Cancer & Melanoma Research.  Please go to her website to see the “Awaken Sea Salt Scrub” product at http://www.JeanneDubil.MyArbonne.com to see the amazing product that everyone in your household can enjoy. It retails for $28. You are welcome to make a donation in lieu of receiving this product, too.

To participate in the fundraiser, please send a $30 check to Jeanne (to cover tax & shipping) at:

Jeanne Dubil
303 Greenwood Rd.
Lansdale, Pa 19446

You can also email Jeanne at mailto:jmdtoo@yahoo.com for further information.

Let her know how many Salt Scrubs you would like and if any of them are gifts she can gift-wrap them for you! Her goal is to order 125 by October 15th and send the Skin Cancer Research a check for $1,000.

Jeanne thanks you for working with her towards her goal to help raise awareness of Melanoma!

LOCAL TALENT: Brookelyn Rose

Brookelyn RoseBrookelyn Rose has been singing and performing since she was 4 years old. Her father, a locally acclaimed magician from the suburbs of Philadelphia, allowed Brookelyn to realize her dreams early on through her performances with her father as his “little assistant”.

As she grew older, Brookelyn took the stage as the opening musical act for her father’s shows. She then took part in many talent shows and musical theater productions along the East Coast. Brookelyn has been featured in numerous publications for her roles in various productions since a very young age. Brookelyn may be small in stature, but her unique, mezzo-alto range is anything but ordinary. Brookelyn’s soulful, powerful voice captures audience members and leaves them wanting more. Brookelyn’s love for music and performing radiates from within her during every show. “To me, music isn’t just lyrics, melodies and rhythms; it’s my soul mate, my language, my true passion” (Brookelyn 2009).

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Pumpkin PatchNo, I am not writing about Christmas. So Bah-Humbug! Fall! I am writing about the many things I love to do in the fall! It’s a beautiful time of the year here in Pennsylvania. The air is cooler, the leaves are changing colors, the scenery can be spectacular.

Almost every year around the end of October it has been a tradition in my family to take a drive up the Poconos. We spend the weekend going on hay rides and visiting the local Pumpkin Patches. One place I absolutely love is the Country Junction where every year they have an amazing Pumpkin Festival.

During the day, it is more for kids. They have amusements, crafts, hot apple cider, a petting zoo, pony rides, corn mazes, non-scary hay rides and so much more.  Sadly, The Country Junction stores burned down a few years ago but they have since been rebuilt, completion was done this year! We are happy to have our stores back! Lots of neat gifts and a great time to start your Christmas shopping … er …uh … bah-humbug!

Halloween timeAt night, the hay ride becomes much scarier! You are left off in the middle of a corn field only to have to walk through dark woods where the trees come alive. If you make it out alive, you then must walk through a dark cave, yes, a real underground cave only to end up in a 3D haunted house. Creepy crawlers lurk all around you! It’s a blast!

Another “just as fun” place to visit is Shady Brook Farm in Yardley, PA. They also have great hay rides which take you out to the pumpkin patch where you can pick your pumpkins, corn mazes where you really do get lost, and THE MOST AMAZING kettle corn on the east coast! There is nothing like a hot bag of this popcorn right out of the kettle! And on our way home, we can’t forget a stop at Styer Orchard for the best apple pie in town!

For those daring souls who want a little more fright in their Halloween season, check out Terror Behind the Walls in Philadelphia, PA 19130 – Eastern State Penitentiary, a real haunted prison with the most maddening, nasty ghosts in Philadelphia!

Yep .. Christmas can wait … I am not ready for that yet! I’m too busy enjoying the Fall Season in PA!

Boo!

Fall Home Maintenance Tips

Fall Maintenance Tips

Check the Heat! Have an HVAC contractor come out to inspect your heating system. Have your system cleaned so that it remains efficient. Don’t forget to change filters if you have them as suggested, once per month.

Invest in a programmable thermostat. You could save well over $100.00 annually just by keeping your temperature (in the winter) no higher than 70 degrees while awake and changing it to 62 degrees while you sleep.

Think about checking your roof before the cold weather comes and don’t forget to clean the fall leaves and debris from gutters and drains.

Caulk your doors and windows. Check window glazing putty (this seals the glass into the window frame).  Add weather stripping as needed around doors, garages, etc.

Divert water away from your home.  Add extensions to downspouts so water runs at least 3 to 4 feet away from the foundation. Drain and then turn off exterior faucets and/or turn off the shut-off valve inside your home.

Using a lawn irrigation system? Consider having it professionally drained to help avoid freezing and leaky pipes come spring.

Lastly, and most importantly …
Don’t forget to check the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
